NCCI Gardner Custody Scope
NCCI houses criminally sentenced men under Massachusetts DOC authority. County roster fields and WCSO records do not describe this prison’s movements. Begin every release inquiry with the DOC commitment identity and Gardner placement, then follow the recorded destination.
NCCI Gardner Release Paths
North Central Correctional Institution is a Massachusetts DOC medium and minimum-security prison for criminally sentenced men. It is not a WCSO branch or a county house of correction. A person can leave NCCI by sentence expiration or discharge, parole, transfer within DOC, or transfer to another criminal justice authority. A physical departure from Gardner does not by itself establish community release.
The distinction is most important when a name stops appearing at NCCI. An internal DOC transfer keeps the person incarcerated. Parole places the person in the community or another approved destination under Parole Board authority. Expiration ends the relevant prison term, but a warrant, detainer, or new authority can still change where the person goes. Ask for release type and destination, not just a date.

Search Current NCCI Gardner Custody
Massachusetts does not advertise a stand-alone historical released-offender search. Its official find-someone page routes to VINELink and describes a person “being held” by DOC. Search requires a full first and last name or a commitment number. Only Massachusetts DOC participates in the Massachusetts VINE program.
Use exact spelling and a commitment number when known. Select Massachusetts and DOC if the interface asks for an agency. A returned DOC location is present-custody information. The official instructions do not promise a released archive, actual release date, projected date, offense, photograph, parole office, or supervision status. An absent result cannot distinguish release, transfer, spelling error, or data retention.

Confirm an NCCI Gardner Release
A completed NCCI release is best confirmed by matching DOC’s event record to the legal source. Start with the locator only to test current custody. Then use the sentencing docket, parole records when parole applies, and a DOC public-records request for the actual release or discharge entry.
- Search exact name or commitment number through the official Massachusetts DOC locator route.
- If a current location appears, distinguish NCCI from another DOC institution before drawing a conclusion.
- If the person is absent, review the sentencing docket for the sentence and later orders.
- Check public parole decisions or request releasable Parole Board records when parole may explain the exit.
- Ask DOC for the discharge certificate, actual release date, release type, destination, and releasable sentence material.

Identify the person, commitment number, NCCI, and a narrow date range. Ask for the existing face sheet or release entry, certificate of discharge, actual release type and destination, mittimus or sentence-computation material that is public, and a releasable photograph if needed. A “certificate of discharge” documents the formal end reflected by DOC. A “mittimus” is the court authority for confinement or sentence execution.

NCCI Gardner Parole Release Records
Parole is conditional release from a sentence under Parole Board authority. It differs from probation, which is imposed by a court. Public life-sentence decisions are organized by year and name, but Massachusetts has no general public statewide parolee name locator. Individual files may require a records request, authorization, or redaction.
An institutional parole decision may approve release to community supervision, another state, federal custody, ICE, DOC, or a house of correction. Eligibility or a favorable hearing outcome is not proof that the person left NCCI on that date. Rescission, release planning, warrants, and other legal conditions can affect execution. Confirm the actual NCCI release entry and parole permit.

NCCI Gardner Release Court Sources
The sentencing court explains the legal term behind NCCI custody. A docket may show sentence length, jail credit, concurrent or consecutive terms, later orders, and case disposition. Massachusetts presentence credit and earned-time rules can affect a projected end date, but no official public locator field guarantees that date.
For a past release, compare the court’s sentence to DOC’s final discharge record. If a transfer occurred, seek the receiving institution or authority instead of describing it as release. If parole followed, use the Board record. The three sources answer different questions: the court imposes the legal term, DOC records physical custody and discharge, and the Parole Board records conditional release and supervision.
NCCI Gardner Release Date Limits
A sentenced person may know an estimated maximum-release or Release to Supervision timeline even though the public Massachusetts locator promises neither field. That difference matters. An expected date can change because of earned credits, forfeitures, jail credit, a new court order, sentence structure, a warrant, a detainer, or release-order review. It remains projected until DOC records an actual exit.
Massachusetts does not apply a universal rule that every person serves 85 percent of a sentence. M.G.L. c. 127, § 129D governs qualifying earned deductions and completion credits, while § 129B addresses qualifying presentence confinement credit. Release to Supervision under § 130B has its own calculation, eligibility conditions, exclusions, and plan requirements. The sentence and DOC computation must be read together.
An ordinary term that ends on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday is discharged on the preceding day under M.G.L. c. 127, § 150. A Friday NCCI discharge can therefore reflect the statutory end of a weekend term. It is not, by itself, evidence that parole was granted early. The release type and certificate distinguish expiration from parole or transfer.
NCCI Gardner Discharge Record Context
DOC’s release entry belongs with the sentencing court record. The court supplies the sentence and later orders. DOC supplies the computation and physical custody event. The Parole Board supplies a conditional-release decision and permit when parole applies. A favorable decision can precede physical release and may depend on an approved plan or another prerequisite.
Request only the existing records needed to establish the event. A useful request asks for the face sheet, release or discharge entry, certificate of discharge, actual date, release type, destination, and releasable sentence-computation material. If the record says transfer, obtain the receiving institution’s entry. If it says another authority, use that agency’s record. This chain is more reliable than treating disappearance from VINELink as proof of discharge.
